Dr. Scott DeGroot - The Riley Fellowship's first Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Scott de Groot, a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, received his PhD in history from Queen’s University in 2015. An historian of gender and sexuality, Dr. de Groot’s scholarship employs transnational, interdisciplinary, and oral history methods. His doctoral dissertation on the intellectual and communications history of the gay liberation movement in Canada and across the Anglo-American world is currently being revised for publication. With the support of the H. Sanford Riley Postdoctoral Fellowship in Canadian History, Dr. de Groot will conduct research into Indigenous LGBTQ activism, and the emergence of Two-Spirit as a concept, identity, and decolonization project. He looks forward to engaging with faculty and students of the Department of History and the University of Winnipeg during the 2017-2018 academic year.
